Grateful Rescue & Sanctuary

Grateful Rescue INC dba Grateful Rescue and Sanctuary is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization that takes in homeless animals and provides rehabilitation, adoption and foster programs to place animals we receive. We develop and present advocacy and educational programs that are presented to schools, businesses, government organizations and the general public. Our community outreach program includes free animal therapy services for people in hospitals, nursing homes, assisted living facilities and hospice. We offer free boarding and daycare for the pets of people meeting specific situations, We will provide a low-cost spay/neuter program to the public. We advocate the humane treatment of all animals and actively work with local and state governments to pass legislation that support animal rights. When our construction is completed later in 2021, we will offer several expanded programs and retail facilities, making us the largest animal sanctuary of its kind in the eastern United States.

Adoption Process

First Step - the application. The first step to adoption is completing and submitting our adoption application to us. The app will give you the ability to let us know if you are interested in a post you have seen online, or your interest in finding a particular breed at a later point. All received applications are loaded into our system and sorted in order to match you with animals you are interested in. Before we post an animal for adoption we review existing applications for a match. We place most of our animals this way. So, it works to your advantage to have your application already in our system when we begin to look for an adopter. When an animal is ready to be placed for adoption, we always try to have at least five potential homes to consider. We post on our website and social media if we don’t have enough matches. Second Step - the meeting. When we have applications that match well we set a meet and greet meeting to visit the animal. Sometimes the animal instinctively chooses who they think is the match, and we can arrange sleep-overs if the potential adopter prefers. Getting the right pet is important you both of you. If the meet and greet doesn’t go so well doesn’t mean the next animal won’t be a successful match. Third Step - binding the adoption agreement. Your application signature & our witness signature is our binder with you once the adoption application is signed by you and witnessed by an authorized staff member of Grateful Rescue & Sanctuary. ny fees or other costs associated with your animal will be paid in full prior to witnessing the contract. Post Adoption - our thanks for life. Congratulation, you have a new companion that will accompany you on life’s journey, we wish nothing less than the very best for both of you and the family and friends you will share! Many of our staff members and volunteers have loved and cared for your pet, we have walked them daily, fed them twice a day, bathed and weighed them weekly and groomed them monthly as if they were our own. It is our privilege to do this and it will be hard for our team to see them go, but we understand no matter how hard we try we can never do better for them than by helping them find your loving home. Thank you for adopting your pet from Grateful Rescue & Sanctuary. And finally, your pet fee is also a donation you may deduct on taxes, and as an adopter, you will automatically become a member of Grateful Rescue & Sanctuary. Membership has advantages, including 15% discount on all online and on-site retail items for sale.
