We are a Small No-Kill Dog and Cat Animal Shelter located in Orange County, Goshen New York. NYS Registration RR210 – expires 04/26/2022. Our Primary goal is to temporarily house cats & dogs until permanent loving homes are found. During the time they are with us, we take care of their medical needs, socialize, love and care for them. NO animal is ever put to sleep to create space for another animal. As Goshen Humane Society is a 501 (c)(3) not for profit organization, GHS struggles with the issues of very low funding. In comparison to other municipalities, we receive approximately 1/4th of the funding of most shelters. In addition we DO NOT and NEVER have received any funding or help when it comes to cats, and sadly Goshen does have a cat problem. Our annual Veterinary bills average $40,000 and 90% of this is cat related. So this is why we charge surrender fees and ask for donations when people show up with cats and kittens. This also means that our survival depends on adoption fees, additional donations and the generosity of the public along with fundraising. It is a constant struggle. We ALWAYS need dedicated volunteers who are willing to help in the shelter, but even more important is that we need volunteers willing to help with fundraising and/or to chair a fundraising event.
We now require that you are Pre-approved by filling out one of our Adoption Applications. This application process is through Petstablished.com. Once approved, an appointment will be made to meet the cat or kitten you are interested in. We won’t be having anyone inside the shelter to browse/look at animals at this time that isn’t pre-approved. It is too high risk right now to do this. When you fill out an application on PE, you can call the shelter at 845-294-3984 and leave a message that you have filled out an application. When one of our staff makes contact, please be prepared to answer questions. Times are different right now and it is important that our staff stay healthy. Also, please understand the entire process can take up to 2 weeks which is already stated on the Pet Established website – hopefully less, but we’re asking that you be patient. Veterinary offices are overwhelmed and have limited hours, and vet references are part of the application process. An adoption will not happen over night. Thank you for your understanding
