Getalong Dachshund Rescue - Green Cove Springs Pet Shelter

GetALong Dachshund rescue is a Dachshund rescue serving Alabama, Arkansas, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maryland, Mississippi, Missouri, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia, and West Virginia. We step up for Senior Dachshunds and those with severe medical needs. We also rescue young dachshunds. Our main purpose is to rescue, rehabilitate and re-home our dachshunds in forever homes to live their lives in a safe loving environment. We sometimes find ourselves providing loving arms and a safe foster home for the severely ill to live out their last days being loved and cherished, sadly all too often they are experiencing this love for the very first time. Many of the dachshunds we get are abandoned in shelters because they can no longer provide their owners with healthy puppies to be sold. Or they have gotten old and are in need of medical attention so they are sent to the shelter for someone else to care for. All too often the only medical care they have ever had was their first shots as puppies. Some of the Dachshunds who come to us are purebreds. They come to us in all shapes sizes and colors. If you are truly looking for a pet that wants nothing more then to please you and love you, then please consider adopting one of our seniors. They are full of love and ask for nothing more than to be loved in return.

Adoption Process

If you have lost your heart to one of our lovable Dachshunds and want to make them a part of your family, the first step is submitting an Adoption Application. Once we have received your application, we will review it. Our reviewing process starts with a member of the GetALong Dachshund Rescue adoption team speaking with your vet and ensuring that all of your personal animals are up to date on their shots and are spayed or neutered. The next step will be be a phone interview with you. In most cases, there are two phone interviews. The second being with the foster parent of the dachshund you have chosen. This second call is actually an opportunity for you to ask the foster mom or dad any questions you might have about the new dachshund you have chosen. Since the animal has usually been in their care for at least a month, they have a lot of insight into the personality, likes, and dislikes of the new pet you have chosen. The foster will also be able to provide up to date medical information and any special needs your pet may have. After we check your veterinarian references and have spoken with you on the phone our local representative will do a home visit. Please understand it is not our desire to intrude on your privacy in any way shape or form, our only interest is in ensuring that the animals we place in forever homes will be given the utmost love and care possible. Please remember that there may be more than one application for each dog. Our goal is to place each dog with the home most suited to his or her personality and needs.
