The Montgomery County Humane Society, Inc., doing business as Gateway Area Humane Society, is incorporated under the laws of the Commonwealth of Kentucky dating from February 2, 1982 as a non-stock, non-profit corporation. We are run entirely by volunteers; we have no paid staff. We are not a public animal shelter and we do not provide animal control services for the public. We take our task of finding responsible homes for our rescued pets very seriously as we are the only voice they have, and we have only one chance to get it right. We often rely on foster homes for the animals we rescue. We are constantly seeking reliable/responsible foster homes.
Prospective adopters must compete and submit this application for adoption. Staff will call you when your application has been approved. If you rent your home, we may verify with your landlord that you are allowed to have a pet. We may also ask to speak with your vet to verify that you have kept up with the care of current or previous pets. Please email us with any questions. Your inquiries are appreciated and will be answered in a timely fashion. We will be happy to answer any questions that you may have regarding a particular animal.

Located in Eastern Kentucky C.A.T.S. is Rescue & sanctuary for stray cats, kittens, a few dogs and puppies. We work hard to spay/neuter every stray in order to help stop overpopulation of cats and dogs in order to save lives and prevent them from going to kill Animal Shelters. They are then available for adoption into approved homes.
