We are Friends of York County Animal Shelter. FYCAS is a completely volunteer run 501(c)(3) Non-Profit organization assisting York County Animal Control with socializing and re-homing the adoptable animals at the shelter. We help the shelter staff by walking dogs, socializing cats, and assist potential adopters in finding the best match for their next pet. Outside of the shelter, we network and promote the animals available for both adoption and rescue, educate the public about low cost veterinary and spay/neuter programs, actively advocate to our local government for continual improvements, and raise funds to help support the animals in finding their fur-ever homes. Our greatest asset is our volunteers – the time, energy, and dedication that they bring. The more volunteers we have the more animals we can save. FYCAS volunteers all share the common goal of reducing the euthanasia rate of unwanted pets. Since the founding of FYCAS, the shelter has seen a decrease in the number of intakes and euthanasia. A higher percentage of the adoptable animals are finding new homes, and FYCAS continues to grow and network with rescues and fosters while also educating and providing resources to the residents of York County.
All adopters must go through the York County Animal Shelter approval process.

Nestled in twelve acres of country and woods is a place for animals that are hardest to help, BIGGER dogs, abused pets and puppy mill dogs. They need more time, more space and more love than many full rescues can provide. Their adoptions sometimes take months, but they get the room and attention that they need to get back on all four feet. The problem.... not many people are willing to give them a

I have rescued nurse mare foals since 2000. The nurse mare industry is based primarily in KY. The mares are bred for milk production only, the mare is then rented to an expensive TB race foal. The mare's original foal is a byproduct and is starved, left to die or taken to auction at just a couple days old. This is an industry with thousands of foals needing rescue every year. We have started

We receive full bred Airedale Terriers from families, individuals, vets and shelters who need to rehomed for various life issues. The dogs are brought up to date on vaccinations, rabies and spayed or neutered.
