Friends of Scales Reptile Rescue (FoS) focuses solely on the rescue, rehabilitation, and rehoming of reptiles, amphibians, and invertebrates. Friends of Scales is dedicated to the care of the ill, injured, abandoned, and the aggressive/dangerous. As an insured, bonafide reptile rescue, we strive to promote conservation through responsible pet ownership and inspire the public to take a more active role in preserving the animals we love. Friends of Scales is a tax exempt, 501(c)(3) charitable not-for-profit servicing Illinois and the Midwest since 2009. Our Board of Directors are all volunteers and include: veterinary professionals; reptile industry leaders; professional reptile educators; law enforcement professionals; scientists; and teachers. As a foster based organization, Friends of Scales works tirelessly with passionate individuals and families. The rescue prides itself in our ability to rehome animals in zoological facilities, educational facilities (ambassador shows, universities, grade schools, etc), sanctuaries, and private homes. All animals in our care receive veterinary attention regardless of outward healthy appearances, socialization, and premium nutrition. Monthly, it costs the rescue $500-$1,200 to maintain 15-40 animals. Every animal that comes into our rescue undergoes a full veterinary evaluation and diet modification to reflect the nutritional needs of the species. Reptiles are our passion, and that’s why, at Friends of Scales reptiles matter!
At Friends of Scales (FoS), we are dedicated to doing everything in our power to find the best possible homes for all of our adoptable animals! This dedication has led us to developing guidelines for potential adopters in order to insure that the animal and their new home are totally compatible. First time adopters looking to take home their very first cold blooded friend from our organization are encouraged to submit an application. First time pet owners are welcome and we happily work with you to provide the best care possible! This form is filled out one time and remains in our records. If you have relinquished to our rescue before, you are still encouraged to fill out an application for an animal if you so desire. Relinquishing to us in the past does not necessarily prevent you from being able to adopt from us. Conditions of the relinquishment and information about the adopter and previously relinquished animal will determine the outcome of the attempt to adopt. If your application is denied, we will tell you why and allow you to reapply in 3-6 months. Adopters MUST be over 18 years of age. If you are under 18, your parents or legal guardian must submit this form and appear at any and all adoptions. Certain reptiles and amphibians require permits. You will have to show proof of these permits prior to individual adoptions or that adoption will be denied. If it is discovered that you have not been truthful on this form, Friends of Scales has the right to decline your application and ban you from adoptions. Please, be truthful. We look forward to helping you find your perfect pet!
