Our mission is to improve the quality of life of companion animals in the Española Valley. We are committed to helping people find the right companion for their family. And we’re here, without judgment, when surrendering a pet has become the only option. Our goal is to find every dog and cat in our care a happy and loving home. In the meantime, no one is turned away at our open doors.
The Española Valley Humane Society is a nonprofit organization that relies on private donations and its own fundraising abilities to operate. The adoption fees help to offset some of the costs of providing care for the animals and preparing them for placement into new homes. Adoption fees are on a sliding scale from free to $150, depending on how long an animal has been in the shelter’s care. Average adoption fees for an adult cat or dog are free to $45, and for a small breed dog, puppy or kitten, $25 to $50. All adoption fees include the spay or neuter surgery, a microchip with lifetime registration in a national database, initial vaccinations, and 30 days of pet health insurance.
