ECBR was founded in 2019 with the goal of providing a safe haven for bulldogs and bully breeds in need. Our goal is to rescue dogs who have been abandoned, abused, surrendered, or neglected. Through our no-kill, foster-based system, we are able to find homes for dogs who would otherwise be inappropriately cared for or euthanized. We rescue dogs locally in the Pittsburgh area, and we also accept dogs in need from across the country. We continue to partner with other rescues to ensure no dog is left behind. At ECBR we not only rescue dogs from difficult situations, but also fully vet those dogs to give them the best possible chance in their new homes. We advocate force-free training and give all of our adopters the tools and advice they need to succeed. We have been rescuing dogs throughout the United States since 2019.
Dogs that are new to our rescue are not listed immediately for adoption. This is because we take time to let the dog decompress and learn about him or her. Once we know more about the dog and can pass that information on to you, we will open the dog to applications for adoption. If you see a dog on our social media who does not have an application available yet, be patient! The dog will be listed soon. Applications are typically held open for two weeks. No preference is given to early applicants and we will not approve any adoption until the initial application period is over. We may hold applications open for longer if we have few applicants for a dog. Once an applications period is closed, we cannot accept additional applications for that dog. After we review applications, we will contact well-qualified adopters to ask follow-up questions and any clarifying information. Please note that we may contact several potential adopters at this stage. The rescue does contact vet references. Prior to adoption, we will will request a home check. These must be in-person and not virtual unless the adopter is out of state or there are extenuating circumstances. A meet-and-greet is required for all adoptions prior to finalizing the adoption. Any pets that you own must be present for this meet and greet to ensure that everyone gets along. Please do not plan to make our dogs a "surprise." All family members of all ages must be aware that a dog is being brought into the home. Yes, we do accept out-of-state applicants. Please know that even though we can't always respond to everyone, we are continuously amazed at how many people are willing to open their homes to dogs in need. We sincerely hope that you all find the dog that is perfect for your family. Best wishes.
