Dolly Goodpuppy Society - Barnesville Pet Shelter

Dolly Goodpuppy Society

The Dolly Goodpuppy Society™ is a Department of Agriculture licensed, non-profit, all-breed canine rescue organization located in Barnesville, Georgia. We are dedicated to rescuing, vetting, and finding loving homes for well-deserving dogs who may otherwise not get a new start. The mission of the Dolly Goodpuppy Society is to promote responsible, humane pet ownership, to give as many dogs as we can another chance at life. Our organization is committed to reducing the population of homeless/unwanted animals in our community by promoting and supporting an aggressive spay/neuter program to prevent unwanted pregnancies. We believe good choices make good pets and happy owners. Many animals are surrendered or abandoned every year because they did not fit their owner’s lifestyle. Pet owners often become frustrated when they encounter behaviors that they are unable to correct. An improper correction can actually worsen the problem or have an unpleasant side effect. It is important to be well informed and prepared before you get the pet. We think that many pet issues could be avoided by education in responsible pet ownership. Many of our dogs come from local animal control facilities. In some hardship cases, we accept owner surrenders. Animal control is a very scary, unhealthy place for young puppies, so we do our best to take litters of puppies, and their mom, before they make it to animal control.

Adoption Process

The Dolly Goodpuppy Society adoption process is fairly comprehensive. If you are interested in adopting one of our dogs start the process by completing our online adoption application. If you are unsure which dog(s) you are interested in you can simply select any dog and complete the application. You are not obligated to that dog; the application simply gets the process started. Our volunteers will review the completed application and contact you within a few days to conduct a phone interview. After the interview is conducted an on-site meet and greet at the Dolly Goodpuppy kennel can be scheduled. We encourage potential adopters to come to the kennel and spend time with the dog to determine if he/she is a good fit for you, your family, and your lifestyle. Since we are primarily a volunteer driven organization, all visits to the kennel are by appointment only. This helps us ensure we have adequate staffing and ample time to spend introducing you to the dog(s) you are interested in adopting. Prior to finalizing the application, we will conduct a home visit to verify all the information you supplied on the application and during the phone interview is accurate and the environment is a safe, appropriate home for the dog. The Dolly Goodpuppy Society reserves the right to deny an applicant based on the unique needs of each individual dog. Our process is a little more detailed than some rescues, but The Dolly Goodpuppy Society is committed not just to adopting as many dogs as quickly as possible, but to finding the right home for each dog, and the right dog for each adopter.
