Dogs Of Hilltown - Little Elm Pet Shelter

Hilltown is a forgotten community in Denton County Texas. Unclaimed by local governments, Hilltown has developed a significant problem with that has lead to heartbreaking consequences. Despite the efforts of many of the residents of Hilltown, stray and dumped dogs have overrun the community. As we all know, veterinary cost can be significant and frankly out of reach for most of us. What would you do if your family dog, a dog that you did not purposely adopt, but rather just showed up on your yard and you decided to take pity on, became pregnant by one of the many dumped dogs in the community? You know you should’ve gotten her spayed but that might have meant not feeding your family that night. What would you do knowing that you can barely afford to feed your dog never mind the multiple mouths that are about to enter this world? You don’t want to take them to the shelter because you believe only beautiful dogs get adopted. Surely these pups will just be unwanted mutts who end up being put down. You don’t have the resources or even the knowledge about rescues to consider asking them for help. Other dogs have survived on their own, you’ll throw some food out for them but what else can you do? Unfortunately, these puppies then turn into another group of stray dogs and the cycle just continues. A group of concerned dog lovers from the surrounding areas have recently organized and we are trying to provide assistance to the dogs and residents of Hilltown. Us dog lovers have all heard the saying, “Saving one dog will not change the world, but surely for that one dog the world will change forever.” With this saying in mind, we are starting small and focusing on Hilltown and the immediate surrounding area. We hope in the near future we can take a much broader and grander approach to helping the Dogs of Hilltown but for now all we can do is help one dog at a time. Dogs of Hilltown is devoted to helping these street dogs with things they have never felt before- we want them to feel warmth, a soft blanket, a fully belly and maybe even the best thing of all…love.
