Diamonds In The Ruff - Goldsboro Pet Shelter

Diamonds in the Ruff Canine Rescue is a group of volunteer dog lovers that rescue, provide sanctuary, and ultimately re-home abandoned, stray and neglected dogs. The mission of Diamonds in the Ruff Canine Rescue is to find healthy, loving, lifelong homes for dogs already born into this world. Most of the animals rescued come directly from our local animal shelter. The group believes in taking care of the existing dogs and puppies instead of supporting breeding that most often results in suffering and homeless animals. Diamonds in the Ruff Canine Rescue has rescued dogs for years, but became an official 501(c)3 non-profit organization in April 2007. We are committed to the education of pet care in our community, including awareness to spay / neuter your pet. Diamonds in the Ruff Canine Rescue is committed to providing quality care and adopting dogs into quality homes. Our rescue dogs are fully vetted before adoption and spend time in foster homes where they are provided with an enormous amount of love and security. Our fosters work with each rescue dog to help them learn some of the basic skills necessary for placement. As the number of foster homes increase, we can rescue more and more dogs that are in need of a loving home. We may not know the history on the dogs that we rescue, but we can ensure that their future is bright and comfortable! With the support of the community - we can save more lives. Remember, your best friend may be waiting for you at Diamonds in the Ruff Canine Rescue!

Adoption Process

If you see a dog or puppy and would like to start the process of saving a rescued animal – please fill out our adoption application. The application will be processed by an adoption counselor. All applicants go through the same screening process. We will make contact with you to answer any questions you may have and discuss the care of any current pets. Incomplete applications will not be considered, as the information you give us on your application is essential in determining the compatibility of the dog you have requested with your life-style. At this time, we will also conduct a vet reference to determine the care of any current & past animals including yearly vet maintenance and heartworm prevention. ALL potential adoptive families must have up-to-date veterinary records on all pets currently residing in the home. We believe for health and temperament reasons that it is in the best interest of the dog to be spayed or neutered at the appropriate age. We will not adopt a dog into a home if the current or past pet(s) have not been altered. If your application is approved, a volunteer will contact you to arrange an appointment for you to meet the dog or puppy you are interested in adopting. A home visit will be scheduled if the adopter and dog are determined to be a good match. Diamonds in the Ruff charges a small fee to adopt a pet. This fee helps cover the cost of caring for the dogs, initial vet examination (medical attention if necessary) and preparing them for adoption. The adoption fee for an approved application is $175.00. Applicants must be 21 years of age or older to adopt. Fenced in yard required for ALL adoptions (invisible fence not accepted) (For the welfare of our rescue dogs and for our own peace of mind, we require a fenced in yard so our rescue dogs have the room to run and exercise within the safety of a secure fenced in area). All of our dogs are adopted on a three (3) week trial period. If at any time during those three (3) weeks you feel you cannot fulfill your commitment, we will refund your adoption fee and take the dog back into our care. If at any time during the dog's life you cannot fulfill your commitment, you will be required to return the dog to Diamonds in the Ruff Canine Rescue. Diamonds in the Ruff Canine Rescue reserves the right to refuse adoption to any applicant.
