DFW Tzus & More Rescue is a 501(c)3 nonprofit rescue and foster care organization whose ultimate mission is to match homeless Shih Tzu, Lhasa Apsos, and their furry friends with loving, forever home, and give these homeless animals a second chance at a wonderful, new life. By working closely with local animal shelters, we hope to prevent the senseless euthanasia of these unfortunate stray or abandoned pets, which have ended up in shelters through no fault of their own. We also take dogs from owners who can no longer care for them. As our human population ages, we are taking more and more dogs from the elderly who have to downsize and go into senior facilities where dogs aren't allowed. So heartbreaking! We are an ALL VOLUNTEER group and take no salaries nor personal expenses. As we say often, ALL of our $$ go to the dogs! Our main expenses are vet care, boarding, and grooming. Most of our volunteers work full time, have families, and yet still make time to love and care for their foster dogs as if they were family. We have a great group of selfless volunteers who definitely go above and beyond. We usually have weekly adoption events on Saturdays at Euless Petsmart, and our foster parents attend as often as possible in order to find homes for their foster dogs and make space available so that we can save more dogs. We are always in need of additional caring foster homes and volunteers to transport from shelters to vet clinic. After submitting an application for the dog you would like adopt, please come out to one of our "Tzu Reviews" at a noted Petsmart or other specified location. Once we have met with you, reviewed your application, along with vet records on any prior dogs, and helped you select the dog most suitable for your family, we will schedule a time for one of our volunteers to come to your home for a home visit. During this home visit our volunteer will look around your house/apartment and yard, for any potential hazards (such as poisonous house plants, gaps in fences, etc.) that may need to be corrected before you receive your new family member. Please be patient as most of our volunteers work full time jobs, and have to schedule accordingly. Please keep in mind that sometimes the dog you're applying for might already have an adoption pending, or may actually "fit" better in a different applicant's home. If this should happen, we will try to contact you as soon as possible and help you decide on another dog, or you can continue to wait until another suitable dog becomes available. Our volunteers hope to help you choose the best match for your family, and to make adopting your new family member a pleasant and enjoyable process.
