The Creole Poodle Club of New Orleans, Inc. is a not for profit organization that was established in 1956. It was started by a group of poodle enthusiasts who wanted to promote the breed. Most of our original members were involved in showing dogs, but as time has passed the Club has grown to include rescue and public education activities. We rely totally on volunteers who foster the dogs in their homes throughout mostly southeast Louisiana. We rescue poodles and poodle mixes from kill shelters that were either owner surrendered or found as strays. We try to match the home with the personality of the dog. Our volunteers also do vet reference checks and home visits before the dog is placed. We are responsible for making sure the dogs are spayed/neutered, UTD on all shots, given a heart worm test and are started on heart worm prevention, before they go to their new homes.
All adoptions start with an application, please fill out and submit back to us. We then review the application and check your veterinarian references. Please make sure you provide us with the phone number of your vet. The next step is a phone interview followed by a home visit. We only adopt to residents of Louisiana and surrounding states where we have available volunteers to help us. You must be 21 years old with a valid ID to adopt from our rescue. All of our dogs are in foster homes throughout South East Louisiana. We do not have a central location where you can “meet” the dogs. Once your application has been approved we will then set up a meeting between you and the dog through the foster mom. Our goal is to match the dog with the family. Our foster moms provide us with information about their personalities. We try to find out what you are looking for in a pet, and then match the dog to your home situation. Our adoption fees are $200 for dogs under 25 pounds and $500 for larger doodles and standard poodles. This includes all vetting: spay/neuter, all shots, heart worm test, 1st months heart worm prevention, and grooming on intake into rescue. Thank you for your understanding, the dogs are our number one concern and we want to make sure they go to the right homes. If you have any questions about our adoption process, please feel free to ask.
