Columbus Cocker Rescue - New Albany Pet Shelter

Columbus Cocker Rescue

Columbus Cocker Rescue is a breed specific rescue focusing primarily on saving the most at risk American Cocker Spaniels. We rescue, rehabilitate, provide medical care, evaluate and search for the right adoptive homes for our cockers to continue to be nurtured and loved after they leave us. We are a foster home based program, and do not have a central location. All of our adoptable cockers are in private foster homes in and around the Columbus OH area, being treated like any other member of a loving family prior to being adopted. During times of crisis, until a foster home can be found, we may have the cockers in temporary short term boarding, prior to moving to a foster home.

Adoption Process

Each adoption application is subject to acceptance based on a review process that requires collecting information from an application, a phone interview, a vet and/or personal reference check, and a home visit. This process is to be completed before you meet a rescue dog available for adoption. Making decisions about dog placement in adoptive homes is an art, not a science, and there may be times when applications will be declined for various reasons. Approval of an applicant is left to the discretion of the CCR coordinator after he or she has reviewed all available information. For any rescued dog in CCR's care, we reserve the right to make all decisions regarding final disposition or placement into a foster or adoptive home. There is absolutely no guarantee, made or implied, that any person or persons requesting to adopt a Cocker being fostered through CCR, or posted on CCR's website, will be granted an adoption. When meeting a rescue dog, please try to spend as much time as possible with the dog to evaluate compatibility before making the decision to adopt. If you are considering an interstate adoption, please discuss the dog's temperament, health, and transportation options very thoroughly with the dog’s case manager (contact listed at the bottom of the web listing) and foster parent or shelter before making the decision to adopt the dog. In the best interest of yourself, your family, and the rescue dog, please make certain that the dog you choose to adopt is the right dog for you. Adoption is a big commitment lasting for the dog’s entire lifetime. The adoption fee for a dog in CCR's foster care program is $150-$350. The fee depends on the age of the dog.
