Coalition Advocating For Animals (cafa)

CAFA’s mission is to improve the lives of dogs and cats in Oregon. CAFA educates and works with the public and other nonprofit organizations on pet overpopulation issues such as spay/neuter, implementation of trap/neuter/return (TNR) programs as well as rescuing and adopting tame cats and kittens into good homes. We are a group of long-time animal activists who have worked with and volunteered for rescues/shelters in the Salem area and other parts of the country. We are primarily concerned about the cat overpopulation problem in our community and want to work with landlord and property owners to be part of the solution through non-lethal means. We believe that spay/neuter and trap/neuter/return (TNR) programs are the only realistic solutions to cat overpopulation in our area. That is why we are working to increase funding for these programs.

Hopes Haven began as a dream for our founder, Marsha Chambers. A televised news story about a case of obscene animal abuse broke her heart. Video of the scene revealed several deceased and emaciated dogs. Of those still alive, only two were determined to have any chance of survival. Marsha, called the humane society where the dogs were taken and asked if a terribly emaciated Doberman on the newsca
