Charlie's Angels Animal Rescue - Fletcher Pet Shelter

Charlie's Angels Animal Rescue

Charlie’s Angels Animal Rescue is a non-profit 501(c)3 organization that was founded in early 2009 with the purpose of rescuing animals from the Transylvania County animal shelter which was, at the time, a high-kill shelter. In 2008, records show that 71% of the animals brought to the Transylvania County animal shelter were euthanized. By the end of 2009, 80% percent of the animals were being saved thanks in large part to the efforts of Charlie’s Angels Animal Rescue. The organization continued to grow and in 2012 Charlie’s Angels expanded its scope of services and opened Safe Haven, a no-kill shelter in nearby Fletcher, NC. We also expanded our service area in order to help rescue homeless, abandoned, and often neglected animals from shelters in Henderson, McDowell, and Madison Counties. Today, we are one of the leading animal rescue groups in western North Carolina and we are enormously proud of the life-saving work that we do. We work closely with our shelter partners to help animals in need and are often called in to help with horrific hoarding situations. In addition to the work we do with our area county shelters, we are constantly creating new ways to save more animals. One of our most successful partnerships has been with the Aloft hotel in Asheville. Through the Aloft program, one animal at a time is chosen to be fostered at the hotel. So far, 150 dogs have found new homes through this innovative program. We also began a program in cooperation with the Swannanoa Correctional Center for Women in Black Mountain, NC called New Leash on Life. The program pairs two dogs from Charlie’s Angels with inmates who help socialize the dogs while teaching them basic obedience skills. We have also partnered with a number of local, animal-related businesses who help showcase foster dogs in their stores. We do all of this without any government funding. We are 100% reliant on donations. What we do have is a handful of talented and dedicated kennel attendants and a cadre of devoted volunteers and supporters full of dogged determination to make the world a better place for the animals we rescue. We invite you to come see us at Safe Haven and learn more about the life-saving work we do.

Adoption Process

1. You can see our adoptable animals on PetFinder. Some of our animals on Pet Finder are in foster care. If you see an animal you are interested in meeting, call our phone line at 828-885-3647 and leave a message. Or drop us an email at Info@CharliesAngelsAnimalRescue.com. Someone will contact you to schedule a Meet and Greet. We also hold regular adoption events so check our schedule for one near you! 2. Come for a meet and greet. If you have existing pets, bring them with you to meet your potential adoptee. You must meet the animal you’re interested in adopting before we can consider your application. This is an important step in the process. It enables you (and us) to determine if the animal is a good fit for you, your family, and your lifestyle, and to answer any questions you may have. 3. Complete the adoption application. At Charlie’s Angels, we believe it is our duty and our responsibility to make sure that every animal in our care is adopted into a safe, loving environment and given every chance for a long, happy life in a forever home. We consider every application seriously to make sure it is the best fit for the animal and the potential adopter. Once your application has been reviewed, a member of our home visit team contact you about scheduling a home visit. The home visit is for the benefit of the animal and the adopter. After all, our goal is always a successful adoption! During the visit we discuss feeding, training, the best way to introduce your new pet to the family, vaccination schedules (especially with puppies and kittens) and address any safety or welfare concerns. If you have existing pets, we will also contact your vet to verify that your animals are up to date on vaccinations, on heart worm/flea prevention, spayed or neutered, and in good health. If you rent your home we will also contact your landlord to verify that they accept animals and ask if there are any restrictions, such as a weight limit. When your application is approved, come to our shelter, sign the adoption contract, pay the adoption fee, and pick up the newest member of your family!

The Henderson County Humane Society was first incorporated in 1950 and built an animal shelter in 1966 on property donated by the county. The Society was briefly inactive during the late 1960’s when responsibility for managing the shelter was assumed by the county. County officials and animal welfare advocates continued to dialogue regarding issues related to animal welfare and overpopulation. T
