Founded in 1999 Bunny Lu is a 501 (c)3 registered non profit rabbit rescue. We typically take in 150 - 200 buns a year and find them indoor homes where they will be loved and cared for the rest of their lives. At any time we have 50 - 60 rabbits at the rescue and in foster homes. We take rabbits in when local and sometimes not so local shelters are full or have rabbits with medical or behavioral issues. We prioritize taking in at risk rabbits from shelters but do also accept owner surrenders on a limited, case by case basis and accept rabbits that may not be in a shelter but are in a life threatening situation. We rely on the sale of supplies, bun sitting, and donations to provide a roof over their heads, food in their tummies, litter in their boxes and medical care.
If you see a rabbit or rabbits you want to meet, please fill out our adoption application and contact BunnyLuRabbitRescue@gmail.com to get more information and set up an appointment. If you already have a rabbit and are looking for a companion bun, we strongly recommend bringing your rabbit along to help pick out his/her new friend. Bunny Lu requires that our adopted rabbits live indoors and that if for any reason you are unable to keep your rabbit in the future then the rabbit must be returned to Bunny Lu. First time/un-experienced prospective rabbit parents are required to read “A House Rabbit Primer” by Lucile C. Moore (available for $15 from Bunny Lu or on amazon as a digital download). We feel this is the best book available to explain what living with house rabbits is really like so that you can make an educated decision IF a house rabbit is the right pet for you. While we feel house rabbits are wonderful companions we know they are not right for everyone. At Bunny Lu we want you to be comfortable about your decision to adopt a house rabbit….and to find the right rabbit for you. First time bunny parents should be looking at adult rabbits, preferably rabbits over 2 years of age. Baby bunnies or anyone under 1 year of age will not be adopted to first time bunny parents. Our adoption fee is noted on individual petfinder listings. Please understand that the adoption fee charged is intended to cover our actual costs for spay/neuter, microchipping and vaccinations. It does not cover the costs for us to provide shelter, food and litter for the rabbits while they are in our care. We have reduced the adoption fee on our senior buns to encourage you to give a home to these wonderful older buns.
