A division of the Department of Public Works, Animal Care and Control operates the City of Bloomington Animal Shelter and provides animal control assistance for the City. Bloomington Animal Care and Control's mission is to address and respond to all animal needs in the community through education, enforcement and support in order to build a community where animals are valued and treated with kindness and respect.
You can view adoptable animals online, at the shelter or at one of our adoption events. Once you find an animal that you are interested in adopting, please complete a survey/application. If you are unsure which animal you would like to adopt, that is fine, simply leave that portion blank or note that you would like to choose from available pets. Our wonderful staff and volunteers will assist you in the process! Once we receive the application, you will be contacted via email or phone to let you know the next steps and set up a visitation appointments. Plan on at least one hour for the full adoption process in order to give enough time for a visit, discussion with an adoption counselor, and adoption paperwork.
