Black Dog Rescue Project - Tulsa Pet Shelter

Black Dog Rescue Project is a small rescue group servicing the Black Dog Township area; a rural area just outside downtown Tulsa where there is no animal control. It is about 15 minutes outside of downtown Tulsa. Sadly, many people drive out here past the city to dump their pets and most don't have the skills or instincts to survive. They are disoriented, scared and vulnerable so we intervene to help them find a new home with families who will love and protect them forever. There are also many pets abandoned by people who moved away or just are not being taken care of in general that we strive to help. Our founder briefly worked as an animal control officer for a small city where she realized how much city shelters, especially small ones, need our help. They do not want to euthanize animals, but the cities they work for are not-or cannot-provide them with the funding to care for all of the displaced and injured animals in their city and we need to help. This rescue actually started when the founder and her husband couldn't bear to see the dumped dogs suffering every day and started bringing them to their farm, caring for them and finding loving families for them to join. Thst became financially draining quickly and they soon realized that they needed help in the form of donations, caring fosters and volunteers who want to learn how to work with dogs, not just walking them. If you find an injured animal in the Black Dog Township area contact Wing-It and if they cannot help feel free to contact us or if you need help transporting it to an appropriate wildlife rehabber. We are in the process of filing for 501c3 status. Once it goes through we hope to open up our services to Tulsa and all surrounding rural areas so that fewer animals need to perish in shelters with very little funding from their city. We aspire to provide rescue and care for canines as well as barn cats and all barnyard animals, such as goats, sheep, donkeys, ponies etc. Canine training and behavior modification is very important to us. Any dog that is adopted from us will have had basic obedience training and we will have a firm understanding of any problem behaviors and what you can do day to day to help your new furry family member be the best possible version of themselves for the good of the whole family. We aspire to someday soon have a full service rehabilitation facility so that shelters can send them to us instead of euthanizing healthy, fearful or destructive canines. We firmly believe that most shelter employees do not want to euthanize these dogs, but have no other option.
