BeWild is a small organization with big dreams. We are a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that acts as a rescue for displaced reptiles, amphibians, and invertebrates. Founded in 2018, we have taken in over 250 animals since our inception. These animals are either surrendered by members of the public, found roaming outside, or transferred to us by other rescues or animal shelters. Surrendered animals are given any medical treatment needed, quarantined for a minimum of 30 days, and then adopted out to carefully vetted homes. A few have even stayed with us to become educational ambassadors! We specialize in medical cases and work closely with an amazing team of reptile-specialized veterinarians. If rescue is the treatment, education is the preventative. As a secondary mission, we are dedicated to educating central North Carolina about responsible exotic pet ownership and safe cohabitation with local wildlife. This mission is accomplished primarily through the use of interactive programs. By using live animals in our programs, BeWild makes learning about reptiles, mammals, and invertebrates an engaging experience suitable for all ages. We believe that animal education should be accessible to everyone, which is why we strive to provide low cost educational programs to a wide variety of private and public venues.
