We are a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization staffed solely by volunteers devoted to the rescue of unwanted, abused, and homeless basset hounds in the Dallas, Texas area and surrounding regions. As we are funded entirely by donations from the public, the continuation of our work depends on the generosity of each one of you. Being 501(c)(3) means your donations are tax deductible.
The first step in the process is to complete an Adoption Application. Upon receipt of your application, we take the following steps: 1. Call your vet(s) and landlord, if applicable, for reference checks. Please be sure to include their name(s) and phone number(s). Type in your name and date for the authorization release of information. Failure to do so will delay the processing time. We will verify with your vet(s) that your current dog(s) are up-to-date on annual vaccines - not just the rabies, have been spayed/neutered, have had annual heartworm tests, and on heartworm prevention. If not, that is an automatic denial. 2. Conduct a phone interview. 3. Perform a home visit. We'll do the following upon approval: 1. The foster coordinator will contact you to discuss dog(s) best suited for your situation. 2. If at all possible, the foster family will do the meet-n-greet. Most want to see where their “baby” will be living. All family members who need to be onboard with the new addition are required to be present at the meet-n-greet. 3. There will be a 24-hour cooling off period after the meet-n-greet. This avoids an emotional-based decision. After that time, both parties need to contact the foster coordinator. If both parties agree, then the adoption will take place. If not, we’ll repeat the process with another dog. Typically this process takes no more than two times before we find the right fit. 4. If you can’t keep the dog for whatever reason, no matter how long you’ve had the dog and no matter where you live, the dog must be returned to us.
