The purpose of the society is the prevention of cruelty to animals, the relief of suffering among animals, the extension of humane care and treatment for all animals needing protection; the return of lost animals to their owners; and to seek suitable homes for animals without owners.
Applications must be submitted and approved for adoption. This can be done via this website (adoption agreement on homepage) or in person during business hours. Our dog adoption fee is $140. It includes the spay or neuter surgery, up-to-date vaccinations, and a microchip. Our cat adoption fee is $75 and includes the spay or neuter surgery and up-to-date vaccinations. If an animal is too young to be spayed or neutered at the time of adoption, there will be a voucher given to cover the surgery within an appropriate timeframe (at participating veterinarian offices) and a deposit will be required. Deposits start at $100 and are subject to go up with increasing distance of an adopters location from the BDCHS facility. Deposits are returned when spay or neuter surgery is confirmed as being completed. We offer multiple adoption discounts if more than one animal is being adopted at a time, as well as specials for our animals that have been residents for an extended amount of time (“old timers”).
