Every year, thousands of Australian Cattle Dogs find themselves homeless through no fault of their own. Although the reasons are diverse, the result is the same. Healthy, adoptable dogs face euthanasia in shelters. The Australian Cattle Dog Rescue Association rescues ACDs from these shelters to give the dogs a fresh start with a loving family. Our foster home volunteers welcome the dogs into their homes where they live as members of the family. During the time in foster care, our volunteers determine what kind of forever home will be the right one for each dog. And then we find that home – regardless of how long it takes!
The first step is to review our available dogs on our Foster Dogs page, on Facebook or on Petfinder. Next, submit your application to adopt. You will receive an automatic response if the application submitted properly and the dog's foster home will be in touch with you within 72 hours. If you don't hear from anyone please check your junk mail or spam folder. If you haven't received an email, please send an email to applications@acdra.org. After speaking with the foster home, your personal and veterinary references will be contacted. A home visit is also part of our application approval process. Depending on your location and where the dog is being fostered, you will either meet the dog to determine a good fit or you will work with the foster home to set up a transport to bring the dog to you. (This is reserved for situations where the dog will not have a problem adjusting to a new home, other dogs, etc. There is a $50 - $150 charge for transporting in addition to the adoption fee.)
