Atlanta Humane Society - West Midtown

The Atlanta Humane Society is a no-kill shelter providing 60,000 animal care points each year through sheltering and adoption, veterinary care, and community outreach. We operate out of three locations in metro Atlanta and help find nearly 10,000 animals loving homes each year. As one of the oldest charities in Atlanta, we have been caring for our community and her animals for more than 147 years. We believe the relationship between humans and animals has deep significance, and we call on our city and each other to take action. Together we put up a united front against cruelty, neglect, and displacement. With a heart to better lives, we connect homeless animals with good homes and neglected animals with safe spaces - uplifting our community by instilling compassion. We’re proud to be able to work together with animal advocates, other animal welfare organizations, and our community partners to save lives. AHS’s federal tax ID number (EIN) is 58-0685900.

Adoption Process

1. Start on our adoptable animals’ website pages. You can view all of our adoptable dogs and cats right now! All of our animals who are currently available are listed on our website in real-time. That means if an animal has an interested adopter or has been adopted, they’ll automatically be removed from the website and you will no longer see them there. 2. Read their biographies! Each animal has a personalized biography that talks about their likes and dislikes and will help you learn a bit more about them and decide if they’d be a good match for you. 3. Apply to adopt. Once you’ve found an animal who is a good match, fill out a pre-adoption application form at atlantahumane.org/adoption-application. 4. We’ll be in touch. When your application is received, we’ll be in contact within 48-72 via email to let you know that you’ve been placed in a queue for the animal or via phone to schedule a meet and greet. 5. Meet your new best friend! Our team will set up a socially-distanced meet and greet with you and the pet and will be there to answer any other questions you might have. 6. Finalize the adoption. If you’re ready to adopt, our adoption counselors will process your adoption and adoption fee virtually. Our adoption fees are cashless and touchless. You will be asked to submit your adoption fee via a secured payment processing link located on our website. We accept all major credit and debit cards. 7. Take home your new friend. Once this virtual adoption process is complete, you’re all set and ready to start a new journey with your best friend. 8. We’re here for you post-adoption. And, even though your adoption is complete, we’ll always be here for you if you have questions about being a pet owner. Especially in these times, understanding your pet’s health and behavior can be difficult, so don’t hesitate to set up a free virtual veterinary assistance or free virtual behavior assistance session with one of our team members.
