Arizona Pug Adoption & Rescue Network (aparn)

APARN’s Mission is to rescue pugs in need (whether abandoned, homeless, unwanted, or otherwise unable to remain in their current homes), provide medical care and emotional support, and place them into loving, permanent adoptive homes in Arizona. We strive to educate the public about the Pug dog breed, including its personality, healthy weight, special needs and care, and the importance of spay/neuter.

Adoption Process

We work hard to ensure a good match between our pugs and potential adopters, which is why we have a thorough four-step application process. Step one - The Application. Even if you adopted as recently as a year ago, we ask you to submit a new application, as so many things can change in a year’s time. Your application will be reviewed within two weeks. Step Two - Phone Screen. If your application is moved on to Step Two, a volunteer will contact you for a phone screen. Step Three - Home Check. If your application has moved to this stage, you will be contacted by one of our volunteers to set up your home check. The home check gives you an opportunity to ask any questions you may have about adoption in general. It also allows us to point out anything of danger to a pug that should be correct prior to adoption. The home check volunteer will not engage in discussion about specific pugs in foster care. Step Four - Pug Matching. After the home check, you will receive notice of approval to adopt. You’ll be contacted by one of our Adoption Coordinators to discuss potential pug matches! Please answer all questions to the best of your ability. We try to complete the application process as efficiently as possible, but please understand that APARN is entirely volunteer based and as such, sometimes there are small delays. APARN does not accept applications for adoption or fostering from parties under the age of 21 years. APARN does not adopt to homes with unaltered pets, smokers, or dogs breeds we feel may be hazardous to a pug. These breeds may include, but are not limited to German Shepherd, Shiba Ina, Chow, Pit Bull and Pit Bull mixes, Mastiff, Sharpei, Wolf Hybrid, Husky, or Akita. Please understand your dog may be very nice, but pugs can be stubborn, and will often refuse to back down from a bigger dog. This always ends very poorly for the pug, and is one of the main reasons pugs come to us needing to have a damaged eye removed. We generally do not adopt outside of Arizona; exceptions may be made on a case-by-case basis, usually for older, special needs pugs. Please answer all questions to the best of your ability. There is a $10 application fee payable upon submission of this application, required for the submission.
