Animals First Foundation of Texas (AFFT) saves death-row shelter and street dogs and re-rescues dogs abandoned by others and prepares them for adoption with a lifetime commitment of safety and support. AFFT also works to keep community dogs OUT of shelters and need of rescue by providing professional behavioral and training assistance, food, crates and other practical needs, veterinary care (heartworm treatment, vaccines, sterilization and emergency surgeries), transport rehoming assistance, and emergency boarding. NONE of this is possible without your kindness and generosity! Donations are always needed to help the dogs in our care and to continue our mission of responsible rescue. Animals First Foundation of Texas is a 501c3 volunteer-run animal welfare public charity dedicated to rescuing the forgotten and needy homeless and shelter dogs in the Dallas/Fort Worth metro area. We provide a safe haven of love, medical care, training and socialization to prepare them for the next phase of their lives as cherished family pets. Step 1 - Fill out an adoption application. Be as accurate and complete as possible, as this best helps us help you! We are happy to assist with any questions. You must be at least 21 years old to adopt. If you live more than an hour from the DFW Airport, please contact us prior to completing an application. Step 2 - We review your application and verify references. This portion can take a few days, depending how fast we can get responses from the contacts. Then we schedule a home visit so you can meet your prospective pet in your own environment and we can answer additional questions. Step 3 - If everything is a good fit the adoption is is finalized. On the big day we stay to help your family and new pet get settled and help you feel confident and comfortable with your new pet's care and needs.
