Working with an overflowing population of animals requires constant attention, maintenance, and staff dedication. Our staff works continuously to maintain a clean, healthy facility in incredibly difficult situations. Our overall goal is to have the fewest number of animals possible in our shelter. We are an open door shelter. All animals are welcomed into our care. We do everything possible to get them well and find them forever homes - and we are always looking for new, creative ways to encourage adoption. Through our programs, we bring animals to handicapped individuals and visit nursing homes. We also work with the Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts and area school groups to create educational programs. We partner with hundreds of organizations in the area to carry out our mission.
We want to help you find the perfect pet for your home, so we work hard to make your adoption process simple and enjoyable. After spending time with your potential pet, we highly recommend participating in our Trial Adoption program, which lets you take a pet for a short in-home stay - usually one or two nights. This helps you determine whether you and the animal are a good fit for each other. It also eliminates the likelihood of a returned adoption. Once you’ve decided to give your pet a forever home, we’ll give you a contract outlining our obligations to you and your obligations to us and your new pet. Our volunteers also create wonderful adoption packages, complete with gifts, educational materials, and medical record information for your vet - along with information on obtaining your first free wellness check. That’s all there is to it! After you sign the contract, your new pet is yours to love forever.
