The Animal Protection League of SC is a 501(c)(3) charitable, non-profit, no-kill, humane organization, founded in 1982. Our goal has been to provide a safe haven for the community’s abused and abandoned dogs and cats, and place them in permanent loving homes. No pet in our facility is ever euthanized for being too old, or the wrong color, or not perfect, or because it has been here too long, or just to make room. The pets that come to us, stay with us, as long as it takes
All pets adopted from APL have been spayed or neutered, because we believe the suffering of unwanted animals will end only when unwanted litters are prevented. No adoptions take place on the same day an application is submitted; that includes from the shelter, or from an adoption event. For dog adoptions, a fenced yard is strongly encouraged. The application review process may take several days because: Your references will be contacted; Your veterinarian will be contacted; A meet-and-greet of new pet and all household family members will be required; A meet-and-greet of new pet and existing pets will be required; A home visit may be required. Adoption fees start at $125 for a cat, and $250 for a dog. The fee helps cover the cost of the spay/neuter and all other health care your pet has received while at the shelter. Many times, the fee does not actually cover the full cost of preparing a pet for adoption.
