Almost Home, the Humane Society of North Central Iowa, is a non-profit organization funded solely by donations. We are a limited intake ("no-kill") facility serving North Central Iowa. We promote humane education and spaying and neutering your pets. We receive no money from the state or city...we rely on your generous donations so we can help the animals in need in our community and surrounding areas.
Our application process is designed to make sure our animals go to the best homes possible. Property check - We always check with landlords (if applicable) to verify any breed or size restrictions on the lease. Veterinary Reference - Any animals in the home must be current on vaccinations. Personal References - It is always helpful to let your references know that we will be calling as most people will not pick up an unrecognized number. The adoption process, on average, can take 1-2 days. Once your application has been approved a staff member will contact you and schedule an adoption time. If you do not find the right fit, approved applications will be kept on file for 3 months while you look for the perfect companion.
