Almost Home Animal Sanctuary

Almost Home Animal Sanctuary is a private rescue located in southeast Pennsylvania. We provide Rescue, Rehabilitation, and Re-Education (Training) services. We specialize in Molossers, a classification of giant breeds. Some examples of Molossers with which we have worked, include Neapolitan Mastiffs, English Mastiffs, Cane Corsos, Bullmastiffs, Dogue de Bordeaux, Fila Brasileiro, Presa Canario, Great Danes, Saint Bernards, Ovcharkas, Rottweilers, as well as many others. However, we have helped dogs of all ages, sizes, and behavioral issues. We offer limited placement opportunities for cats, and have the capability to help our equine friends as well. Almost Home was created out of a desire to honor Ruey, a rescued Neapolitan Mastiff, who provided years of unsurpassed joy, companionship, and love. While Ruey will be forever missed, AHAS can provide homes for pets like Ruey, who need help finding their special forever home. Almost Home was born out of our deep love of animals. We love each animal that passes through our doors and provide an Almost Home, until they go to their forever home. After working with the giant breed dogs in rescue, we realized that there was an enormous amount of fear and misinformation surrounding these mammoth dogs. We expanded our organization to include rehabilitation and training services, recognizing the need for knowledgeable, skilled, confident care when working with these breeds. Given the disproportionate coverage in the media of the behavioral problems of large breed dogs, dog professionals often put the focus on the 'breed' instead of seeing all dogs as part of the canine family. By evaluating and treating the behaviors, not the breed, we are able to resolve behavioral problems and teach owners how to maintain the desired behavior. We have experience with dogs of all sizes exhibiting a large variety of behavioral issues. We feel equally comfortable working with dogs and their owners with all levels of difficulties and have successfully worked with dog aggression, food aggression, as well as dogs with bite histories. Rescuing and rehabilitating animals and their owners is our passion. We believe that both pets and families benefit when animals are well-balanced, well-mannered, confident, calm, and submissive. It is our goal to manifest a different relationship between owners and their pets, whereby animals are valued and respected as living beings. We want to place emphasis on our role as humans to act as good stewards to the animals who are dependent on us, which begins with a lifelong commitment to the animals that we bring into our lives. AHAS wants to foster responsible pet ownership, which includes taking responsibility for creating well behaved dogs. It is our purpose to illuminate the role owners have for their pet's behavior. We want to demonstrate that a different, more effective method of inter-species communication is absolutely possible, which will improve the relationship you have with your pet!
