All Creatures Big and Small is a 501(C)3 non profit pet rescue founded in 2003 by Beulah Miller (a former licensed veterinary technician) and Marjorie O'Grady (an experienced SPCA volunteer) to help adoptable pets in need, both near and far. In the beginning, we had a few very dear friends and volunteers that helped us to get our feet off the ground and we were able to help 50-75 animals each year find their way to new homes. In recent years, we have been able to find even more volunteer foster homes in Oswego, Jefferson and Onondaga Counties enabling us to save 150+ animals per year. To date, we have been able to save over 2000 pets since our incorporation and by offering spay assistance to mothers of litters we take in, we have helped to decrease the pet overpopulation proplem in our area. Our pets come from various places, including shelters, other rescues and owner surrenders, but we try to give priority to local, adoptable pets when we can.
Potential adopters must fill out an adoption application, pass a veterinary reference check and go through a phone interview before setting up a meet and greet. Adoptions are limited to a 500 mile radius of Lacona, NY. Meet and greets are normally scheduled at, or near, the animals foster home. Pets will not be shipped to new adopters. Everyone living in the home, including household dogs, must come to the meet and greet before an adoption is approved. Depending on how well the pet interacts with the new family, and vice versa, an adoption can be approved and paperwork finalized at the meet and greet and the pet can be taken home that day!! Pets are adopted to INDOOR homes only and must be kept up to date on veterinary care, including annual exams and vaccinations. Our policies are not meant to deter anyone from adopting, we just want to make sure our pets go to the best possible homes... better then they came from. We don't screen to discourage adoptions, but because we want them to find homes where they have the best fit and stay with their new families fur-ever. An adoption donation is required for adoption and inquiries with same day adoptions are not possible due to pets being in volunteer foster homes who have other commitments at home. Meet and greets are generally scheduled within a few days to a week after the phone interview. Pets cannot be held beyond the one week time frame or if a meet and greet is cancelled. Please understand that we are an all volunteer organization and when we make the time for adoption appointments, we are taking away from our own families at home.
