Alexander County’s new animal shelter was opened in October of 2002. The shelter is located just off of Highway 16 North beside the National Guard Armory. The 3,500 square feet facility includes 20 indoor runs as well as office space.
Come to the shelter or one of our offsite events to meet some of our adoptable animals. Keep an open mind! You never know when you’ll be stricken with love at first sight! We welcome you to come by our facility to check out our babies that are available for adoption. Our Shelter staff can help you find the perfect pet for your lifestyle. Looking for a fellow couch potato? How about an early morning running partner? Maybe a snuggle buddy? Ask staff to point out some likely candidates. Once you find someone you’re interested in, the shelter staff can help you get acquainted with your new friend. Bring in the family (even the four legged members) to meet your prospective pet. Once you’ve made a decision, we can begin the process to make your new friend and permanent member of the family! The adoption fee for dogs and cats is $75. This includes a distemper combo vaccination, rabies vaccination, and spay/neuter. You must be at least 18 years of age to adopt.
