Adopt A Spot Dalmatian Rescue - Chesapeake Pet Shelter

We at Adopt A Spot Dalmatian Rescue, Inc. are dedicated to the rescue, rehabilitation and rehoming of Dalmatians and to help control the animal population by spaying and neutering Dalmatians before they are placed in “forever” homes. We are committed to placing Dalmatians in only permanent homes, where they will receive good, loving and humane treatment. One of our primary goals is to provide the public with education material and presentations about the breed and its needs. We try to assist owners in understanding their Dalmatian so that they do not give their Dalmatian up.

Adoption Process

We do not work on a first come, first served basis. We evaluate every application and do what is better for that particular dog. Animals will be placed only with adults of legal age who intend to keep them as household pets. No dog will be adopted with the intention of them living outside and/or chained to a tree. All animals will be placed as inside pets ONLY. No animal will be released for adoption as a gift to another person. Adopters must be prepared for the life long commitment. Dalmatians can live up to the age of 12 to 14 years and in some cases there have been Dalmatians that have lived as long as 17 years. We also hold all adoptions during the week of Christmas. If the applicant rents, written permission from the landlord is required before the adoption application is approved. This is for the protection of the animal and the Adopter. No animal adopted from Adopt A Spot Dalmatian Rescue may be sold or given away to another person. If the adopter can no longer keep the animal, for whatever reason, it must be returned to Adopt A Spot Dalmatian Rescue. Serious consideration is given to the adopter’s ability to provide adequate exercise for a dog. Fenced yards are preferred. Consideration will be given if the adopter is able to provide adequate exercise for the dog without a fenced area. All deaf Dalmatians must have a fenced in yard. Adopt A Spot Dalmatian Rescue will conduct a Pre Adoption home visit. At the time of the home visit we will check for hazardous materials that should be stored above a Dalmatian’s reach either in the yard or garage, holes in fences that need to be mended, dangling wires in the home that could be a potential hazard for a Dal especially to a puppy. Sorry, we can not hold dogs. Only fill out the application if you are serious about adopting at that time. If you decide that a Dal is not for you or you have found another dog at another rescue, please let us know immediately. We are volunteers and if you decide you aren’t going to adopt from us, we will close the application and save everyone a lot of time. If you currently own pets, you must provide a current veterinarian reference of proper vaccinations, heartworm preventative and sterilization before an adoption can be approved. Veterinary release form can be obtained or you can call your veterinarian and give permission for the information to be released. We need personal references from three non related people. If you are unable to provide 3, we will not finish processing your application. Home visit must be completed and all members of the family MUST be present. Keep in mind that we are volunteers and we do this in our spare time. You must list an email address on your application for us to contact you. Long distance calls are very expensive and we have to pay for those out-of-pocket. Please make your decisions carefully. Refunds will not be made after the adoption is finalized. Our adoption fee is $350.00 for puppies up to 18 months, $300.00 for adults, and $150.00 for Seniors (10 and above), due by cash or check at the time of signing the contract. Our adoption fee covers all the vetting and the altering of the Dalmatian. We do ask that you give your new Dal time to adjust to his/her home and environment. That process could take 30 to 45 days. Please be patient with them. Most of the time your love is the only love that animal has ever had. With the economy and gas prices transports are very hard to fill. You will have to pick up your Dalmatian from the foster home. We do not ship or fly any dog. If you would like to arrange a transport from an animal transportation company, we can have the dog ready but they will have to come to us for pick up. The expense will be on the adopter and must be paid for before the dog is picked up from the foster home.
