Adopt A Pound Pal is a support group that networks and promotes the adoption of dogs and cats in the City of Lexington's (Missouri) Animal Control Program (aka The Pound). We raise money for medical costs and other items needed for the care of the Pound animals, promote volunteer opportunities at the shelter, and support spay/neuter efforts within the community. Animals are available for adoption through the City of Lexington. Adopt a Pound Pal is not a rescue and does not take in any pets. If interested in adopting, Adopt a Pound Pal will assist with arranging a visit with the Animal Control Officer.
To visit the Pound, you must call to make an appointment. Contact Adopt A Pound Pal to assist with this process, if needed. We can be contacted through the contact form on this page, or by messaging us on our Facebook page. The City of Lexington holds pets for 7 days to allow time for owners to claim. Licensed rescues may transfer from the pound, contact us for information on specific animals. For most animals, the medical or behavioral background is unknown. If information is available, it will be shared. All animals available through the Lexington Animal Control program are spayed or neutered. Looking for a lost pet? Please visit the Lexington Animal Control Facebook page. Adopt A Pound Pal does not handle claims or intake for the Pound, nor do we accept animals or assist with placement of pets not housed in the Pound. There are several area rescues that may be able to assist if needed. The Pound is owned and run by the City of Lexington
