Ever wonder what happens to the millions of dogs who have been overlooked, passed over, and forgotten? Chicago Canine Rescue Foundation exists to give many of these animals a second chance at a forever family. We are committed to leaving no dog behind. CCR was founded in 2001 to help find lifelong, loving homes for homeless dogs in Chicagoland and beyond. To date, we have proudly saved the lives of over 7,000 dogs and puppies (and the occasional cat, too!). The dogs in our care come to us from open-intake animal shelter facilities, from a handful of rural partners who lack the resources for adoptions, and from families who can no longer care for them. Our team provides medical treatment, emotional and behavioral support, and adoption services to each animal that comes into our care. We provide a safe landing place for dogs of all ages, sizes, and backgrounds, and we work tirelessly to match them with their perfect family. You can help even if you can’t adopt. Donors, volunteers, fosters, and advocates all make our mission possible!
Step One: Submit an Application. If you are interested in adopting a dog you see on our website, please submit an application! You can indicate which dog or dogs you are interested in meeting. You will receive email confirmation from an adoption counselor that your application as been received and is being screened. Step Two: Application Screening. We will screen your application, including contacting your vet references and landlord, prior to scheduling an introduction with the dog(s). Our adoption counselor will follow up with you promptly if any new questions arise during the screening process. Step Three: Schedule a meet with the dog. After we receive the application, an adoption counselor will contact you via email within 48 hours to set up an appointment for your family to meet the dog(s) here at the shelter. The entire household including existing dogs must meet the new dog before an adoption can take place. Step Four: Application approval and adoption. After your application has been screen and your family has met the dog, you will be approved for adoption and can take the dog home! You should plan to take the dog home either the day of the meet or within 48 hours. CCR reserves the right deny any application at the discretion of the organization. CCR further reserves the right to request a home visit or other additional application steps at the discretion of the organization.
