Buckeye Bulldog Rescue is dedicated to rescuing homeless and abandoned English and French Bulldogs from high-kill shelters and owners who can no longer care for them. By working with committed volunteers, foster homes, veterinarians, and trainers, we are able to rehabilitate and rehome bulldogs in Ohio and its surrounding states by finding them well-matched, carefully screened forever homes. We also serve as a resource to our community by providing education and information on responsible pet ownership and what it takes to own a bulldog; one of the more expensive and high maintenance breeds.
All applicants must apply for a specific dog. Your application will be placed into a pool of applications from which we will select what we feel to be the best home for that particular dog based on what is written in the application. For this reason, we ask that you spend time on each question and answer in as much detail as possible. Also, if you plan to place more than one application, we encourage you to save each answer in a word document, and copy and paste those answers in to each separate application you place. We do not call all applicants, or their references, for each dog, but attempt to email a decision one way or another. If you do not receive an email, please know it is an oversight, and that our volunteers make every effort to communicate with each applicant, but occasionally are unable to for one reason or another. If you are not chosen for whatever the reason comes down to, we ask that you reapply for a different dog. You must submit a new application for each dog you are interested in applying for. Applications will NOT be carried over to other available dogs for any reason. Please do not assume that you are not being selected because you are not a good applicant, but rather because we often get many applications for one dog and someone else may just happen to be a better suited applicant for that dog or, sometimes, equally as good but we had to choose just one. We do not have pre-approved adoptive homes; all application(s) are welcome when the dog becomes "Available" on our website. We ask that you read the dog's bio carefully to ensure that your home will be a fit for that dog and also understand that that dog's needs may change as we get to know him/her . Also, the foster may choose to adopt the dog before he/she ever becomes available. For this reason, we request that you wait to apply until the dog is moved to "Available" on our website. We will continue to accept applications for approximately one week after the dog is moved to "Available" (unless the dog doesn't receive any applications and in that situation we will leave the dog up for as long as it takes to get the dog adopted). If within a few days we have received a fair number of applications, we will go ahead and move that dog to "Pending adoption" status. If you are unsure, you are welcome to send us a message to ask if we are still accepting applications. Once the application period is over, we will move the dog to "Pending adoption" status while we review the apps we have received. This can sometimes take time as we often allow the fosters input on apps received. We make every effort to notify all applicants once a decision has been made. However, this doesn't always happen. The application process is going to be asking questions about your home and expectations of a rescue bulldog in your home. It is important that we collect as much information as possible to better understand your home and fit of a bulldog into your home. All questions must be answered or replied to for the completion of the application. As part of the application process, applicants are required to pay a small $15 application fee to Buckeye Bulldog Rescue, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit dog rescue, which is used to help provide care for the dogs in our care, as well as ensure that potential adopters are serious about the application process and adopting a dog. The application fee does not guarantee approval of your application. This fee is non-refundable. You must pay a new fee for every application you place. A new application is required for each dog you apply to adopt. If you write more than one dog on an application, we will place your application in the pool of applicants for the first dog listed. After submitting your application, you will be immediately taken to PayPal where you can send the $15 application fee. Incomplete applications, including those submitted without payment of the application fee, will not be processed. Payment MUST be submitted WITH the application in order to be considered. You cannot submit the application, then open a new browser and send us a $15 donation; your application will only email to our application screening system with the payment connected. Please complete the application from a desktop or laptop computer; do NOT use a mobile device (iPhone, iPad, etc.) to fill out the application. The application often does not submit properly and all your input data will be lost. You WILL receive a confirmation email immediately if your application has been received along with a copy of your application/proof of payment.
