Animal Companion Rescue Foundation - Atlanta Pet Shelter

Animal Companion Rescue Foundation

Animal Companion Rescue Foundation (ACRF) was founded by Dale Wintlend after witnessing aging neighbors dying and their pets being destroyed after their funerals. He was concerned about his own pets if something happened to him, and wanted to make a difference for other pet owners by providing an alternative to pet euthanization after their owners death. This was the start, and ACRF has grown since then.

Adoption Process

1. Complete an Application. Complete a dog or cat adoption application online, or you can choose to download a PDF of our application and bring it with you when you visit our sanctuary. This application may be filled out whether or not you have a specific pet in mind, and will assist in making an excellent match between you and a pet. 2. Visit our pets. Visit our pets to see which one connects is that special match. Our adoption staff will help answer any questions you may have about the pet’s personality and care requirements. If you are adopting one of our Lifetime Care participants you will be given detailed information about the pet. These pets are subject to joint ownership with ACRF and we retain the right to conduct routine visits and/or contact. Since adopters have been well-matched with their new companions, most stay in regular contact with us to share happy stories and special moments. 3. Bring your family and/or pets to visit. After the screening process an ACRF staff member will arrange a time for you to introduce your family and/or other pets to your potentially new family member. The visit may be conducted at our facility or in your home. 4. Adoption Donation. ACRF asks for an adoption donation of $250 for dogs and $185 for cats at the completion of the adoption process. Any additional donation will be gratefully received. 5. Going home. A time will be arranged for you to pick up your new family member. ACRF will follow up with you two weeks after the adoption to check on how your new companion is adjusting and to answer any additional questions you may have. 6. After adoption. Once you adopt your pet, make an appointment with your veterinarian. Although ACRF will have already had the pet examined by a veterinary, it is always recommended to establish a relationship with your regular vet right away to get your new companion’s records on file in case of an emergency. Please contact ACRF with any adjustment questions or behavior troubleshooting questions. At ACRF we feel connected to our adopters through our pets. We are excited about your expanded family and would love to continue to hear from you.
