Adoption Process

When a Westie is placed into Westie Rescue of Orange County & Beyond's rescue program, we review all our pending applications to assess the best match for the Westie. Our primary goal is to place the Westie in the best environment for that particular dog's background, personality and needs. If you would like to pursue adoption, the application is the first step to start the process. We will contact you and begin the process once we determine that a Westie would be a good match for you and your family. We take particular care in placing our Westies. Our screening process includes an application, reference checks, interview and a home visit to ensure the home and family is compatible with the pet’s needs and our requirements. To complete the adoption process, we have a "meet and greet" with the new family including all family members and pets. We request owners to sign a contract obliging them to contact us if they cannot provide for the animal for any reason.

In January 2010, we agreed to foster a very sweet Lab mix, Evie, with her 6, 5 week old puppies, Cherry, Chelsea, Chet, Chewy, Charlie and Chunk. These 7 dogs stole our hearts and sadly, a week after we took them, they started to get sick. It was confirmed they had contracted distemper and, one by one, they crossed the rainbow bridge. But not before fueling the fire in us to do whatever we coul
