Vermilion Parish Rabies Control Officers respond to all complaints called into the office. Most calls are for stray dogs and cats, however, calls are also received on animals such as raccoons, skunks and opossums. When responding to a call an Animal Control Officer must enforce the Parish Ordinance. Animal Control houses care for all animals picked up within the parish, including animals that are dropped off by the public. Vermilion Parish Animal Control Officers also investigates animal cruelty and issues citations for persons who continuously ignore the Parish Ordinances. Animal Control Officers also handle all animal bites occurring within the parish. A complete report with pictures are put on file of each and every animal bite.
