Rock City Rescue was established in late 2012 by experienced rescuer, Casey Carter, after spending five years in the animal rescue world. Since Nov 2012, we have rescued over 250 pets! Rock City Rescue is a registered 501(c)(3) Charity. We became a non-profit corporation on February 21, 2013. On July 11, 2014 we were determined by the IRS to be qualified as a 501(c)(3) charity. We receive no funding from the federal, state, or county governments, nor from any corporate entity. We operate solely on private donations and volunteer efforts. Rock City Rescue is an all volunteer network of rescuers, fosters, and volunteers who work together to rescue, rehabilitate, and find homes for sweet, loving, adoptable dogs from pounds in the rural South. The dogs we rescue are often in danger of imminent death as they are on the kill lists at very high volume, high kill pounds. Some of these animal control facilities have kill rates in the 90 percents before rescues get involved. When we commit to rescuing a dog, we make sure the dog is well cared for and properly vetted. We spay/neuter, vaccinate, test for heartworm, provide flea and heartworm preventative, and deworm at private vets local to the shelter they come from. We treat illnesses before adoption, most often heartworm and parvovirus, and we arrange for surgeries when required for dogs who have major health issues. The dogs stay in local fosters or boarding for at least 2 weeks or until they are healthy enough to travel. Then they ride up north with professional rescue transporters who make sure their ride is as comfortable and stress-free as possible. We want the dogs to be in the best possible adoptive home, so we are diligent in finding the right match. As an all volunteer organization, all of our resources go directly to rescuing, rehabilitating, and rehoming Rock City Rescue dogs. It takes a lot of money, time, space, and brainpower to rescue responsibly and we can use all the help we can get. If you can foster a dog, volunteer your time and skills, or donate funds or goods, please let us know. It takes a great community of dedicated people to save these deserving dogs and we welcome your involvement.
The first step is to fill the application out. Please fill it out in its entirety and tell us as much about yourself as possible - the more information we get the better we can match you with the right dog. We do three reference checks (only 1 can be a family member and partners/ spouses do not count) and a vet check for currently or recently owned pets (any pets owned within the last 10 years). Before going through the application process, please familiarize yourself with the terms of our adoption contract.
