Recycled Rotts Inc. - Oswego Pet Shelter

Recycled Rotts Inc.

Recycled Rotts was founded in the late 1980′s and became a 501c(3) not-for-profit organization in 1997. The rescue dedicates itself to the placement (into responsible homes) and education of the breed known as Rottweiler. Our Rottweilers come from humane societies, animal controls and owner give-ups from Illinois, Indiana and Wisconsin. Once a Rottweiler is accepted into our organization, they are immediately taken to a veterinarian to be spayed or neutered, administered shots and given a physical examination. When fosters are available they will go into foster care, otherwise we use local kennels to house our dogs. No matter when they are, they are further evaluated for their temperament and interaction with other dogs. If a Rottweiler is aggressive in any way, the animal is humanely euthanized, as Recycled Rotts could never in good conscience, place another aggressive animal into this world. Every attempt is made to place the Recycled Rott into a situation most suited for it. The animals are tested with children and other household pets. If they get along with one, the other or neither, we place the animal accordingly. The majority of our Rotts are placed in homes with children. We carefully screen our applicants and are proud of our successful placement rate. We maintain contact with our adopters and encourage them to contact us in case of problems or concerns. If for any reason the Rott is not working out in it’s new home and enviroment, Recycled Rotts will always accept the animal back. The animal will then be reevaluated before placed again into another home.

Adoption Process

We read all applications and we will contact people for phone interviews within 24-48 hours. Only when an application is approved do we make an appointment with the prospective adopter to make sure the dog(s) would be candidates. While we read all applications, not everyone will be selected for a phone interview. We like to meet all of our prospective applicants before a placement can be made, so we request that you come to us to meet your future companion. Recycled Rotts does not have a facility. Our dogs are housed in kennels. Recycled Rotts is also a 100% volunteer staffed rescue. All applicants must be over the age of 21. We will not place a rottweiler in a home where there are children under 5. Remember that Recycled Rotts has the right to refuse a placement.
