Providing For Paws - Garden City Pet Shelter

Providing for Paws mission is to rescue neglected, abused and sick animals, or animals that have been displaced from their home. We frequently work in communities that have a high rate of stray animals such as Detroit. We are commonly in these areas and working to educate owners with animals in bad situations, where we often find strays that come to us very neglected or abused. Providing for Paws has several people asking if they can surrender their family pet(s) to us every day. We first ask to see if we can help the families keep their pets in the home by offering our services. When out on the road or when we are checking on an animal that might be in jeopardy, we always try to educate the owner(s) because we feel education is the key to reducing the number of animals that end up in rescues and shelters. If we can provide services to help keep the animal in that home while supporting and educating the owner on proper pet care, this will benefit both the animal and rescue organizations. If we feel the animal is being neglected by their owner after we try to educate them, we will ask the owner to surrender that animal to us or another rescue organization, for the greater good of the animal. Unfortunately, the need for rescue and shelter placement is much greater than the availability and typically outweighs the help we have to offer through rescue. Our goal is to someday have no more abused, neglected or displaced animals.

Adoption Process

An adoption application must be completed, reviewed and approved. A background check of vet care on current and/or previous animals owned, will be required. Along with a home check of any adoption requests reviewed and approved. All of your current animals must be altered. A back ground check of all animals for the past 10 years must be listed and had been up to date on vaccines each year and using all preventatives for heartworm and flea and tick medication while you had ownership of the animal. All of our furever family members are required to be micro chipped, spayed or neutered and fully vaccinated prior to being adopted to their new family. Animals not of age to be fully vaccinated or spayed/neutered will be placed in their new home on a foster basis. The adoption will be finalized upon spay/neuter. All other animals in the home, must be spayed or neutered and current on vaccinations. The only exception to this rule, is if the animal cannot be altered or vaccinated for health reasons, which must be verified by the owners vet. All animals adopted out must stay current on all vaccinations, heartworm tested yearly and placed on heartworm prevention all year long, at their new owners expense.

Once upon a time there lived a group of loyal, sincere, and trustworthy women. Their collective spirits sought to come to the aid of abandoned, unwanted, abused, and lost felines. They wanted to give these beautiful, if sometimes scruffy, creatures a new beginning. They showed the kitties love to heal their broken hearts, patience to learn to trust, and healing medicine to make them well. The wome
