Powhatan Animal Control is a division of the Powhatan County Sheriff's Office. The division consists of 3 animal control officers and 1 animal control assistant full time, and 2 part time kennel assistants. The facility was built in 2002 and can house up to 16 dogs and 12 cats. We also have an additional room for pregnant or nursing animals and a small pen for limited livestock including horses, goats, sheep, and others.
You will be required to fill out an Adoption Application regarding the animal you wish to adopt (there are no same day adoptions). You will receive notification in 1 to 2 days as to whether or not your application has been approved. Please note that we reserve the right to refuse adoption to anyone. If approved, arrangements will be made to pick up your new pet at that time.
