Peace4Paws is a 501 (c) 3 non-profit public charity based in Northern New Jersey. Since 2007, we have been dedicated to supporting sanctuary and forever homes for the animals retired from work in research and related fields as well as shelter dogs through our foster & adoption programs, fundraising events involving music, yoga, animal friendly events & more, plus student outreach to kids from kindergarten through college. We want to ensure the best forever home is found for our furry friends. Please note, Peace4Paws requires a donation of $400 to adopt an adult dog and $425 to adopt a puppy. Please consider this expense prior to completing an application for adoption. We ask that all applicants complete an adoption application prior to meeting with our adoptable dogs. The reason that we request the application upfront is to ensure your home and family are the right fit for the adoptable pet. Peace4Paws requires home visits for all potential adopters. A volunteer will visit to identify any potential problem areas on the property (for example, gaps in the fence) or items such as small toys, cleaning products, plants, etc. that may cause harm to an animal. The volunteer will also be able to answer any specific questions related to the adoption process and offer his/her personal experience. The home visit may occur at the same time as the adoption. When meeting the dog we ask that all family members are present and that you bring any current dogs living in your home with you. After you have completed the application, home visit, and meet your potential family dog, you will be presented with an adoption contract, complete with a copy of the dog's vet records and, when available, microchipping information. Our adoption fee is $400 for adults or $425 for puppies. After a two week "trial period" adoption fees are non-refundable. All of this information is in the adoption contract, which is a standard contract among rescue groups. If you are fostering with the intention of adopting there is no fee until you decide to adopt. You will receive a text and then if necessary have a phone conversation with our medical director Lucille Nardello. She will go over any treatment plan if necessary. Your dog will be up to date on vaccinations. Most adult dogs will already be spayed or neutered. For developmental reasons, puppies under six months will probably not be spayed. It will be the responsibility of the owner to spay or neuter their new puppy at the discretion of your vet ( typically by six months) and send us proof of spay/neuter. Adult dogs will also need to be spayed/neutered as per our contract. Peace4Paws also recommends that you have identification tags with your contact information made for your pet's collar or have the pet microchipped as soon as possible. The dog will need to be registered in your town as soon as your dog is adopted. We hope to prevent dogs getting lost and want to take all necessary precautions against this risk. It is also easier to prove ownership in the event your dog is lost. We will make every effort to speed up the adoption process. Please be aware that many of our volunteers have full time jobs and families and some of our rescue work is done in the evenings or on the weekends. We have some retired volunteers available during daytime hours. Peace4Paws strives to respond to all questions.
