One Dog Rescue - Tujunga Pet Shelter

One Dog Rescue

One Dog Rescue is a 501c3 non-profit that has found homes for over 200 dogs since 2006.We specialize in the rescue, rehabilitation, and adoption of abandoned dogs. One Dog Rescue puts special focus on helping special needs dogs who are red listed to be euthanized at local shelters. We generally rescue small dogs but we do rescue larger dogs on occasion, as well as birds and cats. We also have a few dogs that become sanctuary dogs. These tend to be delicate seniors who stay with us forever as mascots. We deal with all of their medical needs and give them loving homes to retire in. All we ask is that they let us take lots of photos of them enjoying their new lives. ODR found homes for over 200 dogs, many of which were once special needs dogs with dim prospects for survival who are now thriving. The team at ODR loves what they do but needs your help to survive. Small or large donations are greatly appreciated. Every penny goes directly to the care of our dogs. Since many of our dogs are special needs, we have to adopt from the shelter and pay for any necessary medical operations. Then we house, feed, rehabilitate and care for each dog until they are recovered and have found a suitable home.

Adoption Process

Complete and return our adoption application. Please be sure to fill in all questions as completely as possible. It is better to take your time than to rush! It is important to answer every question. A complete application helps us to know if the requested dog will be a good match for your family. Since all of our dogs are in foster care, we have gotten to know their personalities and can be very helpful to you in selecting the right rescue dog. These dogs are like children to us, and we will not place them hurriedly or carelessly. We try to have every dog at our Saturday adoption event, but it is best to email us to confirm that the dog you are applying for will be there. If not, we will make other arrangements so that you can meet the dog. We will make every effort to arrange an appointment for you to see that dog during the week. If you have a dog, bring it with you so that we can assess their interaction. This is a very important part of the adoption process. Since this dog will be a new member in your family, we would like all parties, including your current pet, to be happy with the choice. After you have met the dog, your application will be reviewed by our adoption board of directors. We will not consider your application if you do not come to meet the dog either at one of our Saturday Adoption Fairs or at a scheduled appointment. It is unlikely that a hand written application can be reviewed on the same day it is received. Average response time is from 2 to 10 days. We only call those whose application has been accepted. If you are not a good match for the dog, you will be notified by email. If you have not heard from us regarding the status of your application, feel free to contact us [email protected]. If all parties agree to proceed with the adoption, we make a home visit. This is so that we can ensure the animal's new home is safe and free of any potential health risks. It is not our intention to pry into the private lives of people, but rather to educate when necessary. Sometimes, our dogs are placed with first-time dog owners who may not know how to dog proof their homes. We want to know that there is ample shelter for the dog and that fences are high enough to be escape proof. We will look for any potential risks. The next step consists of a contractual agreement between One Dog Rescue and the dog's new family. The final step is a tax-deductible donation. Our adoption fees vary. One Dog Rescue is supported only by individual donations and adoption fees. We receive no corporate or government funding, and our cost to rescue and place the average dog far exceeds $300. Your adoption donation helps us continue this important work.
