Northeast Animal Shelter - Salem Pet Shelter

Northeast Animal Shelter

Northeast Animal Shelter, established in 1976, is one of New England’s largest non-profit animal shelters. Since opening our doors, we have placed over 145,000 cats and dogs in responsible, loving homes. Our Shelter is located a half hour north of Boston and is easily accessible from all of New England. We’re open 7 days a week to make the adoption of a pet convenient for the general public. As soon as a dog or cat arrives at our facility, our staff begins searching for the right match - a family or individual who will give the pet a wonderful home. While waiting for a forever home, our dogs and cats receive the best of care. Since each animal’s needs are unique, this may include medical care, training with our behavior team, or a special diet. Our pets are inoculated, wormed, and spayed or neutered prior to leaving the Shelter. Northeast Animal Shelter is proud of our many programs, such as Saving Homeless Pets Across America, the Community Pet Food Bank, Foster Care, and Senior Visitation.

Adoption Process

If you are interested in adopting a pet from NEAS, be sure to follow these steps: 1. Schedule your appointment using our online portal below. Please note that due to the limited number of appointment slots and pet availability, compared to the volume of eager adopters, it may take several weeks to secure an appointment. 2. Beginning Friday February 26th, we will release available appointments at 4 PM each day for the following day. If you don’t see an available appointment (which is often the case), please be patient and continue to check the link each day at 4 PM (and as often as you’d like in case of any last-minute cancelations). We ask that you book an appointment and visit us if you see an available pet that interests you and/or if our New Arrivals block indicates we may have a potential match for you. Keep in mind that our website is updated in real time. This means that pets listed on the New Arrivals block will show up individually on our website as soon as they are made available. We ask that you cancel your appointment at least 2 hours in advance to allow your slot to be used by those waiting (appointments cannot be canceled the hour before). 3. Once you have booked your appointment, you will receive a link via email to fill out a pre-adoption form, which must be completed prior to your appointment. If you have already submitted a pre-adoption form, no need to do so again. 4. Adoptions are done same day, so please come prepared to take your new pet home.
