Northcentral Maltese Rescue, Inc. - Racine Pet Shelter

Northcentral Maltese Rescue, Inc.

Northcentral Maltese Rescue was formed in January, 2001, and it was incorporated and applied for its 501(c)3 status that same year. We were expecting about 15 Maltese rescues that year and took in 35. After that, the number of rescues increased yearly. Federal Not-for-Profit status was applied for in 2001 and granted in March, 2006. It is the mission of Northcentral Maltese Rescue, Inc. to take Maltese and other small dogs into rescue that, for whatever reason, need to find new homes. We take in dogs from various situations, owner surrenders, shelters and more. We do all we can to alleviate the rescue’s pain or suffering by providing all necessary veterinary care. Our dogs are placed in safe, secure foster homes. All dogs are spayed or neutered, provided all vaccinations and are microchipped. Northcentral Maltese Rescue will work hand- in-hand, when possible, with other dog rescues. Placement of dogs follows complete background checks as well as home visits of new potential adopters. The safety and well-being is the priority for all dogs that come into our care.

Adoption Process

Complete the Adoption Application in its entirety and mail it in with the non-refundable $10 application fee. Since we receive hundreds of applications every year and multiple applications for each dog, please understand that we are unable to acknowledge every one that we receive. If there is a specific dog you are interested in, please wait 4 days until Mary receives your application and then call her to discuss it. Once you have contacted Mary she will then review your application. Due to the large amount of phone calls Mary receives, she cannot return a call if you leave a message. Please continue to try to contact Mary but know that she is often out during the day to pick up or transport dogs. If you are a good candidate for an adoption, there will be several phone interviews, and your references, including veterinarian and groomer, will be checked. This will be the only time that you may receive a phone call. If possible, we will conduct a home visit. If this is unrealistic, pictures of your home and yard are helpful. You can send them with your Application or by email to [email protected], but be sure to include your name and that you have sent in your application. If you have a dog already, a meet and greet between your dog(s) and the dog you wish to adopt is important to ensure the compatibility of the dogs. A signed Adoption Contract and the paid adoption fee is required before adoption can be finalized. The Contract states that if you are unable to care for or keep the dog, you must return it to Northcentral Maltese Rescue. You may not sell, give away or destroy any dog adopted from our rescue. While we do adopt to out of state residences it is a requirement that you pick up the new addition to your family in person. It may mean flying or driving to the location of the Maltese.
