Established in 1892, the Norfolk SPCA is one of the oldest animal welfare organizations in the country. Originally founded because of concerns about the mistreatment of working horses, the Norfolk SPCA now shelters, treats, rehabilitates and rehomes household companion animals from throughout Hampton Roads to give them the extra time and care needed to find that forever home. More recently, we’ve added two affordable veterinary clinics open to the public.
The Norfolk SPCA is committed to finding permanent, loving homes for each individual in our care. We work very hard to ensure the best matches between companion and owner. Here are a few guidelines that we do require prior to taking home your new friend. Adoption Requirements: Applicant must be 21 years of age and provide photo ID with current address; Provide lease of pet addendum, landlord approval or proof of home ownership; All residents in the home must meet the animal; Provide proof of rabies on resident animals. (All vaccines must be current if adopting a puppy); Dog introduction between resident dog and NSPCA dog to help evaluate compatibility; Leash and collar are required to finalize dog adoptions. Carrier is required for cat adoptions; 24 hour holds are placed once an application and consultation are completed with staff.
