Our Mission: Rescue homeless dogs and cats and provide temporary quality care for them in foster homes until permanent adoptive homes can be found. Promote animal welfare through educational efforts and other services. Reduce overpopulation in companion animals and feral cats through spay-neuter services. Provide needed medical care to senior dogs and cats with the goal to either make them more adoptable or to provide end of life hospice care at an NMAF foster home or through a sponsorship at a senior care sanctuary.
Adoption Application: You will be asked to fill out an adoption application and one of our adoption assistants will interview you. The process takes between 30 minutes and 1 hour. Applications are available at the adoption clinics, or you can download it to fill out prior to clinic. Home Visits: Home visits are required for all adoptions. Special arrangements for adopters out of Albuquerque must be made in advance, but out-of-town adoptions may not be possible. If you live outside of Albuquerque, please call the NMAF Cat Coordinator at (505)350-7463 or the NMAF office (for dogs) at (505)881-7297 (Tue. - Fri., 8:00 - 12:00) to ask about an out-of-town home visit before traveling to Albuquerque to attend an adoption clinic. Returns: If within two weeks the adoption is not working out, you may return the animal to NMAF and you will get a refund minus a $15 administrative fee. After two weeks there is no refund. The adoption contract requires that the dog or cat be returned to NMAF if the adoption does not work out for any reason.
