Adoption Process

Our adoption process is aimed at matching you, your family and your current pets with our animals for adoption. After you have selected the companion animal you would like to adopt, the staff member assisting you will share information about the animal's history and needs, and any volunteer / staff comments. After you have had a conversation about the animal you are interested in, a staff member will walk you through the following steps: You will be asked to complete a screening application. Upon completion, HSoP staff member will confirm that you are in good standing with the Humane society of the Palouse, Inc. and that the information you provided in regard to housing is correct. A staff member will call your landlord if your lease does not state animal restrictions. If you are a homeowner, a staff member will request to see proof of homeownership. This can be easily provided with a copy of a water/sewer bill. Once your information has been confirmed, and your application is approved, the staff member will have you fill out our adoption contract. We will also have you fill out the micro-chip registration form. Every adoption comes with one year of free registration. HSoP uses Home Again microchips. Next, staff will review medical history (provided by HSoP) and providing proper pet care information. This process takes approximately 1 hour to complete. Our adoption screening process includes: Completing a thorough application; providing proof of address; providing a legal for if ID; providing proof of homeowner ship/or rental agreement. We often ask adopters who are adopting a dog into a home with an established dog, to bring their dog into HSoP for a meet and greet. You can schedule this meet and greet with the staff member assisting with your adoption. We review each application individually, so adopters need to allow enough time to visit with the animals, complete the application and interview with our adoption staff. Applications are not on a first come, first serve basis. HSoP takes great pride in finding the best possible home for all of our companion animals. In order to do this, we approve the best home for that individual animals needs. Our adoption fees are: $115.00 for dogs and $90.00 for cats. This includes immunization shots, micro-chipping, worming, sterilization and any other medical care needed to make the animal healthy and ready for adoption. Please be aware that we do not approve every adoption application we receive. If we believe for any reason that the animal is not a good match for an applicant, we reserve the right to not approve the adoption.
